What can I expect from a CranioSacral session? Before: I will introduce you to the Upledger's Ten Step Protocol for your first session. You will know ahead of time what the difference hand placements are, and you have the option of choosing whether or not you would like to receive all of the different phases of treatment. Typically during the treatment, you will be lying on your back on the memory foam-topped treatment table, with a pillow or bolster under your knees if preferred. I may have you lie on your side for a portion of it. If you need to change your position or if you require additional pillows for support, let me know. You have the option of having a blanket on or not. It's best practice to remove any necklaces, earrings, or belts. Dress as comfortably as you can. During: Soothing music will be playing, so just lie back and be open to what you may feel. Your stomach may gurgle, you may sigh (these are signs that the parasympathetic nervous system is kicking in), you may feel different levels of heat under my hands, you may fall asleep, cry, have an emotional release, or you may even feel something you've never felt before. Some clients have reported feeling bubbles of energy leave their body, some have reported a current of energy spreading through their body, some have reported a wave of fluid/energy coursing down their spine - one woman said she felt as if she was floating down a river - everyone has a different report. You can't really describe how CranioSacral feels. Some survivors of trauma recall memories, and if that is the case, you will be supported with the greatest of care and respect. Sessions are always confidential, and can be coordinated with a counselor if that would be of interest to you. You are always in control of your treatment.
-
How will I feel afterwards? After: You will likely feel very relaxed, and maybe somewhat sleepy. Some people will report feeling a surge of energy later that day or even the next full day. Some have emotional releases, gentle and cleansing. Occasionally, some will have more dramatic emotional releases. If you are being treated for headaches or migraines, it's beneficial to keep a headache/migraine diary to compare how you feel before and after. Curiously, people will often experience a relief of pain that they didn't necessarily intened to have treated. We can't always control what gets "healed" first with CranioSacral; your body does. In the next few days, I will likely check in with you via email (if this is your first treatment) to see how you responded and if you have any questions.
-
Can I expect each session to feel the same?Next time: There is a reason my logo is a pair of hands holding a lotus. Each CranioSacral session releases a different layer of restriction, like unpeeling an onion (I think a lotus is a much prettier symbol than an onion). No two sessions feel alike, and treatment is like a journey. Most of my clients schedule monthly or bi-monthly; others choose to be treated weekly or more often if they have acute problems that need to be addressed.
